About me

Ivanova tries to explain the national debt.

Hi there. I’m a journalist reporting on the intersection of economics and daily life, with a particular interest in the barely-legal economy.

I currently work as a data reporter for CBS MoneyWatch, where I use charts and words to make complex economic stories easy to understand.

I’ve been working in media more or less since 2006, when I landed on the East Village couch of a friend who worked at The Indypendent, and then landed at the Indy for several years where I became the first ever culture editor. I’ve also done work for HuffPost, Mother Jones, City Limits, The New York Times Local, Crain’s New York Business, Gotham Gazette, Voices of New York and elsewhere. I’ve also researched and reported for Wayne Barrett at Newsweek/The Daily Beast, translated for TIME and managed a digital photo lab. Along the way I got a master’s from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

If you have a story idea or a project for me, I’d love to hear from you. (Please, no press releases, and don’t add me to any mailing lists.)
